Fair Labor Standards Finally Extended to US Home Care Workers

75 years after the passage of the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Department of Labor extended minimum wage and overtime to America’s nearly 2 million home care workers. A huge victory for low-wage workers and women (90% of the workforce)!! Kudos to Ai-jen Poo for her big-hearted leadership.

The new protections go into effect January 1, 2015, in order to give state Medicaid programs, as well as families who directly hire home care workers, time to prepare.
